InsuranceP&CUnderwriting & Risk Selection

Risk Evidence Orchestrator

Builds a provenance-rich view of the insured risk from internal and permitted external evidence.

Nothing gets ordered until the evidence plan says why. A cyber applicant attests to mature controls while an external scan finds remote access open to the internet; a statement of values says masonry where the aerial imagery says frame. Collection runs by line and calls only the services the risk and the consent scope justify. Reported facts stay separate from observed ones, provenance rides on every field, and a conflict comes back as a conflict with a question attached, never as a quietly chosen source.

Underwriting & Risk Selection

Desk workflow

Triage the submission, gather and validate risk evidence, assess appetite and terms, route exceptions and adverse decisions to the holder of the written authority, then hand approved terms to binding.

Collaboration

Coordinates specialist contributions

Decision boundary

Provides evidence or analysis without committing the decision.

Systems and capabilities involved

  • Property and geospatial data

  • Loss-history exchange

prior loss history from a consumer reporting agency for FCRA purposes

  • Inspection and imagery service

  • Catastrophe model sandbox

  • Specialist evidence agents

Handoffs

What this role gives and receives

Capabilities offered

Risk evidence build

Collects, reconciles, and cites authorized evidence for underwriting.

Receives:
Normalized submission, product, line, consent, and evidence requirements
Returns:
Evidence graph, conflicts, source confidence, and open underwriting questions

Delegates

line-specific risk evidence specialist

Gather the minimum necessary specialist evidence for the risk type. Trigger: The evidence plan identifies a line-specific data need. Returns: Source-cited facts, confidence, usage restrictions, and conflicts.

Delegates

Catastrophe & Accumulation Monitor

Measure portfolio and catastrophe accumulation before terms are proposed. Trigger: The risk is catastrophe-exposed or materially increases an accumulation zone. Returns: Zone accumulation, marginal exposure, treaty impact, and referral flag.

Illustrative workflow

How the work moves

Starting point

A cyber submission reports mature controls but the external attack-surface scan shows exposed remote access.

  1. 01

Verify authorization and collect the submitted controls, scan result, incident history, and vendor dependencies.

  2. 02

Reconcile entity and date scope before treating the scan as contradictory evidence.

  3. 03

Return the confirmed exposure, source confidence, and remediation question to underwriting.

Result

Evidence packet distinguishing attested controls from observed exposure, with one material unresolved conflict.

Checks and boundaries

What must be tested or reviewed

  1. 01Evidence completeness and provenance are graded separately, and a fact with no cited source earns no underwriting credit however plausible it reads.
  2. 02Privacy tests verify permissible purpose, consent scope, minimum necessary access, and protected-data segregation before any external call is composed.
  3. 03A conflict between two sources has to survive as a conflict, carrying an explicit reconciliation or an open question; silently preferring one source is a failure even where that source turns out right.

Human authority

  • The property underwriter commits any change to an insured value, limit or insurance-to-value position, because the value drives the premium, the catastrophe model and the reinsurance cession all at once.
  • The Chief Privacy Officer approves each external data source and its permitted use before it is called, because permissible purpose has to exist ahead of the pull rather than be argued for afterwards.
