Policy Change & Endorsement Agent

Processes in-force policy changes and routes material risk changes back to underwriting.

Classifies the change, prices it on the filed rating, picks the approved form, and applies it where the endorsement authority reaches. Where it does not, the work stops at a preview. A warehouse added mid-term with an insured value above the endorsement limit is an underwriting question wearing a servicing request's clothes, and so is a coverage reduction, a backdated effective date, or a form nobody has filed in that state. The policy of record changes only after the referral comes back.

Illustrative workflow

How the work moves

Starting point

A commercial customer adds a new warehouse and requests coverage effective next Monday.

  1. 01

Resolve the policy, validate that the requester is authorized, and compare the new location to the endorsement authority limit.

  2. 02

Calculate premium and forms while checking catastrophe and underwriting referral triggers.

  3. 03

Hold the location for underwriting because its insured value sits above the endorsement authority limit.

Result

Preview endorsement and premium delta, held for the underwriting referral before anything changes on the policy.

Checks and boundaries

What must be tested or reviewed

  1. 01Effective-date and premium reperformance covers prospective, same-day, backdated and renewal-boundary changes, with the filed rating treatment applied to each.
  2. 02A material exposure change, a coverage reduction or a form not filed in that state stops at a preview and routes to the underwriter holding written authority; changing the policy of record first is a failure.
  3. 03A coverage reduction issued without the state's advance notice and stated grounds fails the run, whatever the customer asked for on the call.

Human authority

  • The underwriter holding written authority for the line and limit commits any material exposure change, coverage reduction or backdated effective date, because each is an underwriting decision that happened to arrive through a servicing queue.
  • The servicing supervisor approves a non-standard form or an out-of-sequence effective date, because the policy of record is the document a court will read.
